Barre Fitness, Canada’s original and largest barre-based fitness chain, officially opened its fifth location in historic Gastown. Initially inspired by a unique ballet barre-based workout technique and is one of today’s hottest fitness trends that combines the best of ballet, Pilates, sports conditioning, and stretching. The studio also includes a retail boutique and provides guests with mats, towel service, and shower facilities.
“We’re excited to bring Barre Fitness to the Gastown area where business owners, residents, and students are showing a tremendous interest in fitness,” says Jes Busch, owner of Barre Fitness Gastown. “Most people are looking to get fit especially this time of the year, back to school and back to the Barre!”
The opening event was a chance for Jes to introduce patrons, guests, and the media to the stunning loft style space and get a thorough work out! Jes, an instructor with Barre Fitness for the past 3 years at their Yaletown and North Vancouver locations, decided to take the next step in her career with her husband and now studio co-owner, Chris Quinn. Together they decided to open the boutique-style studio with the intention of building community and inspiring by happiness through health.
Situated on the 100 block of West Hastings, which could easily be dubbed ‘Fitness Row’ as it has become a burgeoning block for boutique fitness. One Yoga, Eastwood Cycle and All-City Athletics (the new basement boxing gym which is situated directly under the this location) have set up shop on the same block. Close by, Vancouverites will find other popular studios such as Lagree West and Moment Meditation, making Gastown a destination for fitness aficionados.
“Create community, not competition,” says Ella Jotie, co-founder and creator of Barre Fitness. “We’re proud to be pioneers in the boutique fitness industry in Canada and it’s exciting to watch boutique fitness and small business owners flourish in Vancouver. Health and wellness is a win – win for everyone.”
After a quick freshen up and refuel, guests took the time to enjoy the space and check out the boutique area of the studio. Designer Lexi Soukoreff of active wear line Daub Active, was on hand to show people through her latest collection. There was also a great selection of branded t-shirts and other exercise essentials, as well as a gorgeous selection of skin care by Vancouver based company Kunye.
Given its popularity, the barre trend will continue to keep growing, and with the effervescent Busch at the helm, Barre Gastown is sure to be one of its most sought out locations.
