Founded in Rome in 1884 by jeweller Sotirios Boulgaris, Bulgari quickly established a reputation for Italian excellence. To this day Bulgari still enjoys worldwide recognition for its exquisite craftsmanship and striking jewellery. Due to this international success, Bulgari has evolved into a global and diversified luxury purveyor of products and services, ranging from fine jewels and watches to accessories and perfumes. With demand at an all-time high, they inaugurated the largest jewellery factory in Europe last year. Evidence of Bulgari’s expansion can also be seen in the renovation of the New York Fifth Avenue flagship and newly opened store in Boston as well as Vancouver.
The new Vancouver Bulgari store embodies architect Peter Marino’s architectural concept for the brand. The design utilizes materials that are quintessentially Roman while staying true to the original architecture of the space. Framing the open portal entrance, Black Grand Antique marble and White Travertino Navona welcome visitors and introduce a key design element, the Condotti eight-point star. The star is a unifying symbol found in all Bulgari boutiques, honouring Rome as the brand’s home.
On the inside, the flooring features Italian walnut square-patterned parquet and in the store’s centre, a light bronze oval-shaped counter in galvanized iron, inspired by the renowned Italian architect Carlo Scarpa, invites customers to explore the iconic collections while a Murano crystal chandelier by Italian artisan Vistosi illuminates the boutique.
“This milestone marks a special moment for Bulgari, as it brings our Maison’s Roman roots and spirit of innovation to Vancouver, a very important city for the brand,” said Daniel Paltridge, President of Bulgari North America. “We are pleased to open our boutique in Holt Renfrew in a manner that represents the contemporary Bulgari brand while simultaneously paying tribute to our rich, Roman heritage.”
Boasting lines of excited customers that extend out of the store since its opening, this boutique is clearly a much-welcomed addition to Vancouver’s luxury retail marketplace. Make sure you head into Holt Renfrew to get an early preview.
