The highly anticipated opening of Canada’s first House of Dior in Vancouver was a cause for much celebration in the city last month. Vancouver has definitely become a mecca for high-end luxury fashion.
The two-story boutique, shared by both Dior and Dior Homme, is housed in the stunning setting of the historic Fairmont Hotel Vancouver and is the largest Dior store in North America.
To commemorate the launch, Dior hosted a spectacular cocktail party, flying in international DJ Brendan Fallis whilst the Moët and Chandon flowed.
Wandering around the beautifully renovated space, once home to St John, you can see that the boutique takes its inspiration from the original concept of the Paris Avenue Montaigne designed by avant-garde Architect Peter Marino.
Dior VIP Area
The first floor offers a stunning array of luxury bags, fine jewelry, watches and other accessories. Heading to the upper floor, you will find the ready-to-wear, evening wear, shoes and VIP fitting room.
Dior commissioned several contemporary artists to design works for the boutique, including Rob Wynne, whose captivating glasswork (below) on both the ceiling and walls brings a sense of playful modernity, and the incredible floor-to-ceiling video installation by artist and filmmaker Yoram Mevorach Oyoram is both figuratively and literally transportive as it extends up the main staircase wall that connects the upper and lower floors.
With all the incredible design off the racks, one might be mistaken in thinking that the clothing might get lost, but that is definitely not the case. With clean and minimalist merchandising, it is easy to view the collections, and refreshingly the pieces have room to breathe on the rack.
The new boutiques are simply beautiful and will provide a unique and modern shopping experience whilst keeping to the brands’s heritage of timeless elegance and luxury.
