While many of us have resolved to leave 2017 in the past and look to the future, we at Blush wanted to share a few of our favourite finds from 2017 that we will definitely be taking into the new year.
We were thrilled to see our favourite Canadian footwear company Native Shoes open their first stand-alone store right here in Vancouver. We love their ethos and their fun yet practical footwear. Famed for their family friendly and functional ‘Jefferson’ EVA sneakers, this company has gained a huge fan base adding some chic and stylish new styles added to their line. We suspect this will become a popular destination for Vancouver’s footwear fashion fans.
Every Monday night at approximately 6pm, the doorbell rings and the delivery of this weeks FreshPrep is handed over. The cooler bag has two paper bags within representing two meals with enough for 2-4 people. For only $44/week, our house had enough for over 4 meals of plantbased deliciousness. With side salads and/or grilled tofu, some weeks we stretched it to 6 meals. FreshPrep is amazing in service and quality. Where else can you get 6 delicious meals for $44? Cooking and eating at home may sound ‘old school’ but when you can make easy nutritious meals for under $8, why wouldn’t you?
Tusi Cosmetics is the little company that could. Born from founder Yumika Tsui’s desire to create something new, she blended her passion for makeup and fashion with her advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community to create Nixie Brushes. Her mermaid tailed Nixie Brush is a multi-functional makeup brush, that can be used to create a full face of makeup from foundation, highlight, contour to loose powder.
When the first United & Free package arrived at BLUSH in 2016, we fell in love with the local-made plantbased unisex products. Our Favourite was the shampoo and conditioner they were non-irritating and left hair clean and soft. There was no waxy build-up over time and no overpowering fragrance. This year, she sent over new products – Unity Shave Lotion and Prime Body Wash. Both are receiving rave reviews. Congratulations to brother and sister team Kaleena and Brandon Morrison who took their passion for making natural products and turned it into United & Free Skincare. We can see only great things for this duo in 2018!
UberEATS has made its way to Vancouver and we could not be more excited. UberEATS is an on-demand food delivery app that will connect you with one of over 130 restaurants in Vancouver. While we may not yet have the oh so handy car ride program here in Vancouver yet, you can now use this great app to source, order and get food delivered to you from all around the city. This simple to use, standalone app launched in Toronto 2 years ago, delivering millions of meals to hungry Canadians while expanding to cities like Ottawa, Edmonton, Montreal and Calgary. Now Vancouverites get a bite of the action giving Vancouver eaters, restaurant partners, and delivery partners more options.
When Miele contacted us and asked if they could send us a vacuum that was the best in dealing with pet hair, we said bring it on! With multiple pets, the challenge has always been ease of use and incredible suction to really deal with worked in pet hair in carpets, couches, and curtains. The CX1 Lifestyle lived up to the promises and its new design and compactness makes it easy to store in any apartment closet.
When Barre Fitness on West Hastings held their launch party last September, guests were treated to bubbles, balloons, and sweets, but for those looking for something more substantial after the comp work-out, the Protein by Bent bars were perfect. Fast forward to late November and Shannon Bent dropped by with full boxes of each fresh flavour. We distributed them to our active friends and no one was disappointed. Each flavour is distinctive and delicious. While the Peanut Butter Cups edged out the others for the overall favourite, the Key Lime bar will always be our refreshing go-to when we are lagging. Hurrah for a plantbased local product that is natural, organic, gluten free, dairy free, and with no processed sugars.
The annual IDS West design and decor exhibition held at the Vancouver Conference Centre never fails to impress even the most jaded interior designer. This years line-up included Matteo Cibic from Italy, whose joyous and quirky take on the animal kingdom brought laughter to everyone who viewed his Donky display. When tickets for 2018 IDS West are announced, be the first to get your tickets. With three and half days of inspirational exhibits, influential speakers & leading products, IDS Vancouver brings a total design experience to the masses and enough Instagram fodder to last another year.
