 The 7th annual Indian Summer Festival is a contemporary, multi-disciplinary event that is such a thrill to attend. Offering thought-provoking literary dialogues, world-class musical performances, and compelling public art exhibitions. Grammy Award-winning musicians, oral storytellers, hip-hop artists and international visionaries come together at exciting summer festival in venues across the city from July 6 to 15.

Opening Gala – Glamorous guests, fine sips and delectable nibbles curated by Vikram Vij – Indian Summer Festival’s Opening Gala is one of the city’s most sought after summer parties.

  • Thursday July 6 at 7pm
  • Location: Roundhouse Community Centre, 181 Roundhouse Mews

Parcels & Fugue States – Two award-winning Canadian writers discuss their most recent novels ‘The Parcel’ and ‘Fugue States’.

  • Friday July 7 at 8pm
  • Location: SFU Woodward’s Goldcorp Centre for the Arts

Here Is Where We Meet – Two Grammy Award-winning giants come together in a rare concert at the Orpheum: Indian violin star L. Subramaniam, and Ernie Watts, the greatest living tenor saxophonist; bringing the best of classical Indian music and jazz to Vancouver in a call for unity.

  • Saturday July 8 at 8pm

In-Between Worlds – Spend an evening with renowned Canadian writer MG Vassanji, the first person to win the prestigious Giller Prize twice, as he takes us on a journey between the worlds of his rich body of work.

A Muse Of Fire – Join this group of eminent thinkers – novelists, graphic artists and journalists as they explore these questions, taking us from historical sites of war (World War II, Hiroshima) to present day sites of conflict (Palestine, Syria, Afghanistan).

I See The Promised Land – A literary blues-based performance of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King by griot Arthur Flowers, who takes us back to a time when the storyteller was singer, satirist and magician, all rolled into one.

Graphically Speaking – Two creative minds to explore the role of the graphic novel in these turbulent times. Joe Sacco is an Eisner Award winner and one of the world’s most respected graphic artists. Molly Crabapple is a VICE Contributing Editor who has collaborated with Jay-Z on a film on the war on drugs, and authored the best-selling memoir ‘Drawing Blood’.

Morning Raga – Celebrated sitarist Mohamed Assani, accompanied by tabla player Amarjeet Singh will perform a classical Hindustani morning raga followed by a sumptuous breakfast in the stunning garden courtyard of the Ismaili Centre.

5×15 / Constellations – Closing Night kicks off with festival favourite and Canada’s only iteration of speaker series 5×15 featuring an all-star lineup including Bif Naked. Our musical star-studded finale Constellations will follow, featuring legendary Mercury Prize-winning Talvin Singh, who created the movement known as Asian Underground, one of the most exciting developments in the history of British music.

New to the Indian Summer Festival? 
Established in 2011, Indian Summer Festival is a multi-disciplinary arts festival where worlds meet in Vancouver. The festival features some of the finest artists and visionaries from Canada, South Asia and beyond, and is produced by Indian Summer Arts Society, a not-for-profit charitable arts organization based in Vancouver, Canada. Its mission is to offer daring, multi-arts events that bring together diverse artists and audiences and artists in a spirit of global dialogue and citizenship.
