It is safe to say we all love lipstick, it can be the most transformative item in your makeup kit. A truly versatile piece of makeup; in a pinch, it can be used for both lips and cheeks and brightens up anyone in an instant.
Whether you are just looking to add a new brand to your collection or switch out from a brand that is not crueltyfree, it is often hard to choose from the many options available. There are just so many different lipsticks on the market, how can you weed out the not so great from the amazing lipsticks?
Mellow Cosmetics Lipstick in “Posh”
The first thing that hits you with this lipstick is the yummy coconut scent which is enough to whisk your mind off for an instant vacay. The Mellow Cosmetic line is pretty select and the lipstick line currently only comes in matte, but they have some great shades, the pigmentation is good, and it gave excellent coverage. Want a tip from a pro? Make sure your lips are in good condition before you use matte lipstick. Matte lipstick is not the best choice for those with dry lips as it shows every crease and flake.
The Body Shop Colour Crush Lipstick # 110 “Coral Blush”
This colour is a beautiful almost neutral in that it would flatter many skin tones, but the whole line of colour crush lipsticks is quite versatile. The pigment is vibrant and rich with high-impact colour, and with it being a satin finish it feels very moisturizing on. The delicate rose scent is a nice touch. The range of lipsticks in the Body Shop’s line is ideal for those that just want fairly basic day to day colours in their makeup bag. Add in the reasonable price range and ease of purchase (online and available at most shopping centres) this is a great lipstick for everyday use to just toss in your purse, do be mindful that not all the lipsticks in this collection are 100% vegan so make sure to check the ingredients.
One of the great things about Lippy Girl is that it has BC roots and was founded by Vancouverite Darcey Diehl. Another is it proudly sports the PETA Vegan and Cruelty Free logo on its 100% recyclable packaging. Lippy Girls Vegocentric lipsticks are formulated with organic castor seed and jojoba.
Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in “Rapture”
Urban Decay is an excellent choice for someone looking for a wider variety as they have a huge range of colours and finishes. Although this line is not 100% vegan, they do clearly mark products that are and you can always check the ingredients list. Their formulations are rich, creamy and highly pigmented and have great staying power.
Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in “Lolita”
Lolita is the number one selling colour in Kat Von D’s line, and it is a solid choice for everyday wear. The pigment is rich and long lasting. Their edgier colours are fantastic for creating more avant-garde looks, but there are shades available for everyone.
Depending on what is most important to you, go with a lipstick that you feel comfortable with and will deliver what you need. Lipstick is a huge piece of makeup in that it can change an outfit in an instant, and take you from a day look to a night on the town in one swipe. It is the one piece of makeup I never leave home without, and it always makes me feel put together, so pucker up and try a few different brands and experiment with looks.
