#RebelBeautyBites – Summer in #604

Summer, the most reluctant season in Vancity, is finally here.  With the advent of summer comes the latest in makeup trends as we enter this most beloved (depending on who you talk to) time of year. There are a few trends that are hitting the runways, streets, and Instagram hard. Some, of course, are ridiculous – remember red eyeshadow?! –  but some are great beauty looks for the sunshine filled days ahead.

Perfectly Bronzed Skin | TooFaced.com

Dewy, Bronzed Skin
Skin is always the most important part of any beauty look in my opinion. It is the foundation and canvas that all of your other makeup will be built on, so it has to look great. One surefire way to look summer ready is with a dewy, fresh bronzed look. It is the simplest step that you can do in your routine to give yourself that healthy glow. After applying your moisturizer, foundation setting powder, sweep your bronzer on in a “3” shape over your temple, over your cheeks and down to your jawline; simple yet effective. For that perfect natural glow try Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer.

Two times the glitter! | LimeCrime.com

Glitter Everything

While glitter is not always a practical choice and can be hard to work with. You can still have a little fun with this trend without looking like you are going to a rave while at the office. The best way to incorporate a little glitter into your life is to pick a product like Lime Crime’s Diamond Crushers in Lit. It can be used over lipstick, but it could also be used as a subtle pop on the eyes applied just over the lower lid or even on the cheeks for that extra pop. If you buy a Kitty Bundle, Lime Crime donates 20% of proceeds from the sale to The Kitty Bungalow, a non-profit kitten rescue organization in LA. Puuurfect!

Marc Jacobs Style Eye-Con palette | MarcJacobs.com

Orange Crush
While orange and even yellow eyeshadows may be the new black as seen in the latest makeup posts on Pinterest, it may be a little too intense for some. Instead, opt for soft peaches and corals that are perfect for the summer season. A great palette to pick up that offers three great shades that can work for all types of looks is the Marc Jacobs Style Eye-Con palette. The Ingenue 102 palette has a great peachy nude that makes a perfect base to build on, or that can be used alone for a fresh daytime look. This would be a perfect choice for a day to night look; start with the nude and build up with the other two shades in the palette for instant evening drama.

Full(er) Brows
The trend in full brows continues this summer, but to avoid that crazy overdrawn look, opt to use a shadow type pigment to fill in your brows. I love the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder as it allows you to control the level of pigment that you want to put on. The best way to make your brows wow is by gently combing through with a brow brush, applying your brow powder, then combing out again to get a more natural look. If you find a powder type product too hard to work with, try Tarte’s Amazonian clay waterproof brow pencil that has a spooly on the end to help you brush out any hard lines for a natural look.

Classic Red Lip
The classic red lip is a classic for a reason; it is just about the most perfect lip anytime. This summer, we are seeing the classic red lip in a satin finish paired with a neutral eye, clean skin, and simple mascara. This is a look that can take you from day to night and looks clean and classy with a hint of Hollywood glam. For a pure, beautiful red, try Laura Mercier’s Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Red Amour. If you find the red too intense for daytime, try staining your lip with the lipstick by dabbing in on with your finger and using it at half intensity.

Gwen finding her classic summer look!

The summer is a great time to sit back, relax and enjoy, so keep your beauty routine simple and stress-free. Clean, more natural looks go a long way and will help you stay comfortable on the patio or at the office. With a new lipstick, you can let the summer sipping begin and look effortlessly fresh all day.

Cheers to summer!
