#RebelBeautyBites: Best Summer Serums

It has been an unusually dry summer in the #604. With the extended heat and dryness, your skin is craving moisture and deep down nourishment. At night I have added a serum to my nightly base of cream and a sleeping mask. Serums are more concentrated and contain higher levels of active ingredients, so they deliver results with just a drop or two.

Here are some great options for serum no matter the time of day to keep your skin nourished, protected and supple.

Here are a few of my favourites:

Serums, Rebelbeautybites, Di Morelli Skincare, Vitamin C Serum, Verdura Natural Alternatives, Berry Regenerative Serum, Tatcha, Luminous Deep Hydration Firming Serum, Gwen Perkins, featured, yvr blogger, entrepreneur, yvr, follow your dreams, fashion, women in business, blogger, bblogger, blush, beauty products, skincare, lifestyle, health and wellness, Vancouver, Victoria, vancity, westcoast, dominique hanke, crueltyfree beauty, healthy eating, vegan, vegetarian, paleo,

Di Morelli Skincare Vitamin C Serum for Face and Eye | Gwen Perkins

Dr. Robert Morrell founded the Medical Rejuvenation Centre (MRC) aesthetics clinics in Vancouver in 1999 offering non-surgical skin care services to a growing list of clients that include many A-list celebrities. After many years of success with the clinic, he launched Di Morelli Skincare in 2008. Based in Vancouver, this line is made in Canada and is free of parabens and is formulated with palmitoyl oligopeptide which works like Retinol for collagen stimulation with no irritating side effects.

Di Morelli Vitamin C Serum is suitable for all skin types and helps to reduce the signs of aging as Vitamin C is necessary for collagen production and is a known antioxidant that can also help prevent and treat UV skin damage. Use this serum under makeup and before moisturizer during the day as it absorbs quickly and gives your face that extra layer of protection from environmental damage while nourishing it all day. It works great under Di Morelli’s SPF 35 moisturizer which is also oil-free and matte, so there is no greasy residue when you apply your foundation. It is recommended that we wear sun screen daily as we are exposed to the sun more than we might think; while going to work, walking the dog, etc.

Verdura Natural Alternatives Berry Regenerative Serum | Gwen Perkins

Founded by husband and wife team Brigitte & Claudio Urbani, Ontario based Verdura Natural Alternatives offers a wide range of vegan skin care products that are free of synthetic fragrances, colourants, sulphates, parabens, and petrochemicals. Brigitte has over 25 years of experience as an aesthetician and is also a skin cancer survivor, so she is painfully aware of how important quality natural ingredients are for our bodies and our health long term. Thankfully for us, she is using all her knowledge to create the most amazing skin and body care items that work in harmony with our bodies and the planet.

Verdura’s (Italian for green or vegetable) Berry Regenerative Serum has quickly become my go-to serum at night. It comes in a gorgeous recyclable glass bottle worthy of display on any nightstand and has a pump top for easy application.

This rich formulation contains a variety of organic ingredients including grape seed, laurel berry, raspberry, and blueberry seed oils – almost good enough to eat. The ingredient list is refreshing; every single item listed is plant based and recognizable. There is nothing in there but great organic and clean ingredients that are healthier.

As berries are an excellent source of antioxidants, this serum is a powerhouse of Vitamin A & C for skin cell regeneration and Retinol to help with aging skin. At this time of year, this is exactly what your skin needs; a deep luxurious drink to help you make the most of your beauty sleep and repair the damage your skin has suffered throughout the day. And of course, your lips need some love too, so try Verdura’s Bonjour Lip Butter day or night to moisturize those dry, chapped lips.

Tatcha Luminous Deep Hydration Firming Serum

Tatcha (a combination of the Japanese words tatehana (standing flower) and chabana, a floral arrangement used during the tea ceremony), founder Victoria Tsai, an acute dermatitis sufferer, always knew there had to be a better way, a simpler way to beauty.

A trip to Kyoto, Japan provided insight into the Japanese traditions of skin care, and the teachings deeply resonated with her – keep it simple. Ingredients like Japanese wild rose and green tea, long used in Japan are enjoying a second life in the Tatcha line in the North American market.

This entire line looks like it is straight out of a fairytale; kimono inspired prints paired with Japanese aesthetics to make Tatcha’s beautiful glass bottles feel like a spa getaway at home. Tatcha’s Luminous Deep Hydration Firming Serum contains Okinawa red algae, 23K gold and hyaluronic acid to nourish, hydrate and firm the skin. If you are not sure what to try, Tatcha offers lots of options like their Dry Skin Starter Ritual that will give you a trial size of some key products. And while this brand has beauty in the bag, they also give back. Tatcha works in partnership with Room to Read’s Girls’ Education program, helping girls in Asia and Africa reach their full potential through life skills coaching and mentorship.

As with all cosmetics, seal bottles and jars tightly when not in use and store in a dry, cool, and dark place away from damaging UV rays that can break product down. If you buy creams in jars, often they come with a little paddle or spoon; be sure to make use of this. Avoid dipping your fingers into your cosmetic products as it can introduce bacteria into them and they will begin to break down and turn more quickly. As serums and skin care, in general, are pricey items, you want to be able to enjoy every last drop before recycling that empty jar.

Peace, Love, and Lipstick,

Gwen
