New year, new venture! That was definitely how Yumika Tsui started 2017 with the launch of her company Tusi Cosmetics. The young Vancouver entrepreneur knew she wanted to create something that was more than just a product, so she blended her passion for makeup and fashion with her advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community to create Tusi Cosmetics.
“Our goal was to target everyone and anyone in the makeup industry. If you had to look at makeup tutorials on YouTube, the biggest people you will see includes Manny Mua, Nikita Dragun, Nikkie Tutorials, Patrick Starrr, Kandee Johnson, and many more. Just these people alone, it targets a huge range of audience including the LGBTQ+ community. To me, makeup is a form of art, there is no right or wrong in beauty or trying to look good. Makeup should make you look and feel confident. That’s why we came up with the mermaid theme, to make everyone feel included and at home. Everyone is beautiful inside and out and that’s the message we want to share with our audience and supporters.”
Tusi launched their first product at the beginning of 2017, their gorgeous Nixie Brushes with fishtail handels. This multifunctional makeup brush can be used to create a full face of makeup from foundation, highlight, contour and loose powder. The striking fishtail design serves to make them both ergonomically awesome and visually adorable. I asked her where the idea for the design came from.
“We came up with the design of mermaid tails to make people turn their heads when they see makeup artist using this brush. It’s not your typical brush, we wanted to create something that would make people curious about what they are holding. We wanted something cute but performing the same way any other brush would or even better. Not a lot of people know this, but the word mermaid has deep meaning in the transgender community. Just like Ariel, the little mermaid, she wanted her voice to be heard. A lot of people going through transition have been made fun of or been told they aren’t a real woman. In the end, Ariel made a sacrifice to make her dreams come true. You should never be judged for who you are or who you want to become. In the beauty industry, both men and women are talented in their own ways, so don’t be hating!”
Tusi recently added to their line by bringing out their stunning mermaid Nixie Flutters which Yumi is really excited to share with her clients.
“We are the first company to launch mermaid lashes! We currently have our popular ones: Jorie, which includes a hint of purple, and Aquata with a hint of blue. Our lashes are made with faux silk which creates a light and airy finish to the eyes.”
Both products are sure to be a big hit with everyone from the seasoned professionals to aspiring mini makeup artists, as this line definitely adds the fierce and fabulous to putting on face. Make sure you keep an eye on this exciting new company and check out their full collection.
