VFW: Wrap-up Spotlight on Vancouver Talent

Every year, Vancouver Fashion Week draws in designers from all corners of the globe, but I have to admit I am always most excited to see what the local talent has to offer. Vancouver has some incredible creatives, and this past season they did not disappoint. Whilst there are so many collections I could recommend, it took a bit of time, but here are my top 3 from this season’s VFW.

Dominique’s Top 3 from VFW

VFW, Evan Clayton, Alex S Yu, Brittany Wacher, fashion, womeninbusiness, blogger, fashionblogger, travel, lovelife, lifestyle, beauty, love, vancouver, yvr, vancity, westcoast, helen siwak, retail shopping, vancitybuzz, styledemocracy

Evan Clayton | Dale Rollings Collage

Evan Clayton

A well known presence on the Vancouver fashion scene, Evan’s shows are always an unmissable part of VFW. In past years it has been the incredible theatrics and drama of the collections that have wowed the crowd, but this season it was the pure joy of his design. This beautiful romantic collection was so well executed, and as someone who has seen his line grow from its very beginnings, I was struck by the delicacy yet strength of the details. The soft palette of ivory and blush were grounded with olive and unfinished denim pieces. The stand out looks for me were the stunning pleated caped pieces.

Alex S. Yu

Alex is another designer that is a veteran of Vancouver Fashion week, and he has taken the local scene by storm with his vibrant and playful collections. This collection had Alex’s trademark playful cuts and punchy palette, and whilst the collection has a very youthful and quirky feel to it, there are pieces in the collection for everyone.

Brittany Wacher

This was a designer unknown to me before the start of VFW, but she definitely caught mine and the crowd’s attention with her sexually charged introductory video. However, it was the garments that were the stars of the show. Playing with that hedonistic vibe alluded to in the introduction, the pieces played with texture and line. Unsurprisingly there were a lot of sheers and playful cuts.  The stand out piece for me was the white jacket with an asymmetric front. I can’t wait to see what is next for Brittany. I have a feeling she is going to be one to watch.

There were of course so many more incredible designers, but this is just to give you a taste of the amazing talent Vancouver has to offer. So when you think ‘shop local’, don’t be fooled into thinking that limits you – there are an incredible variety of contemporary designer’s right at your fingertips!
