The Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) announced this week a bold restructuring of its traditional film and industry programming. Reflective of an engaged community with an appetite for more than film, VIFF expands the frame to create multi-experiential streams that include curated screenings fused with related talks and events in a unique ‘film plus’ model. Audiences can now find what they already love even more easily and discover new areas of interest.
These reimaged streams, unlike anything offered by other major film festivals in Canada, express the values and interests of British Columbia as a geography and community. Launching at the 35th Annual VIFF (September 29-October 14, 2016), these streams will continue to evolve through year-round initiatives at the Vancouver International Film Centre (1181 Seymour St.).
Drawing on a rich 35-year history of showcasing innovation in film, television and digital media, VIFF also launches VIFF Hub, a central location for experiences beyond film. The transformed Vancouver International Film Centre will host interactive screen-based experiences, talks, sessions and events with leaders in creative industries that are designed to educate and inspire public and industry attendees alike.
“With the steady and rapid growth of Vancouver’s creative industries, we’re adding to and expanding our programming to mirror this diverse community,” says Jacqueline Dupuis, Executive Director, VIFF. “With this shift, we are welcoming variety in ideas, in content and, most importantly, in creators and audience. We hope audiences will discover more, discuss more, and connect through an enriched creative community.”
