Wanderlust Whistler 2016 is a four-day festival (July 28-August 1) that I personally look forward to every year. I cannot wait to get my namaste on with hundreds of other yogis in breathtaking Whistler, BC. There are a myriad of activities to choose from that include yoga (of course), hiking, kayaking, meditation, live music, running trails, great dining and so much more.
It is a time when you can really move outside your comfort zone, have an opportunity to try something new and push your boundaries with renowned experts from all over the world.
This year Wanderlust is presenting a spectacular lineup of new offerings to surprise, inspire and entertain. I am particularly looking forward to partaking in classes with Kathyn Budig. This powerhouse yoga instructor is coming to Wanderlust for the very first time and her classes are on the top of my list. Another first is the arrival of Australians Claudine and Honza LaFond of Acrovinyasa to teach this unique practice that unites the elements of vinyasa, acroyoga and inversion training in both solo and partner practice.
Inspired by Lifestyle
Attendees will be inspired by the Speakeasy Series, a lecture program featuring today’s thought leaders: Preston Smiles & Alexi Panos who will present insights, and practical tools on how to attract and keep the one; Cory Sterling, the Yoga Lawyer will offer ways to build your business and professionalize your practice in an entertaining and useful presentation; Rachel Scott shares what yoga has to do with Tindr; and Susan Horning will share her Feng Shui First Aid Kit to live your best life, and so many more.
Inspired by the Outdoors
For those of you who love to get physical surrounded by the spectacular outdoors, there are the Sunrise Trail Runs. Tim Oldfield starts the day off with a fun, gentle 5km run through the beautiful surrounding forests with stunning mountain views. Then ascend to new heights in the heart of the Coast Mountains supported by climbing professionals from Kaf Adventures. Designed for both beginners and experts, participants will develop new habits for grounding and breath work, and the ability to find clarity when pushing physical and mental limits.
Amazingly, this year at Wanderlust has added more Acroclasses including the unique fusion class Acro-SUP, which features partner acrobatic poses best suited for the stand-up paddleboard!
Inspired by Music
The Whistler Presents Outdoor Concert Series allows you get down with live performances featuring the sheer exuberance of Jose Gonzalez, reggae great Steel Pulse, the soul-folk of Rising Appalachia and superstar DJs – Tasha Blank, DJ Drez, and DJ Taz Rashid.
For popular culture fans, there are three classes you do not want to miss: Yoga Inspired by Star Wars, David Bowie Soulscape and the Muhammad Ali Tribute Class.
Wanderlust also offers four different hikes that that have musical accompaniment. After a meditative hike, attendees can choose to join Masood Ali Khan for kirtan in the woods; Rafe Pearlman for a shamanic sonic excursion, Sheela Bringi will play the harp and bamboo flute, and attendees will be serenaded by Jaya Lakshmi and Ananda accompanied by guitar and bansuri flute.
I am so excited to be attending Wanderlust this weekend and if you already have your tickets perhaps we will share a hike together! If you are heading to Whistler for the weekend and want to find out more, visit the Wanderlust website for full details.
