When I think of a woman with a true go-getter attitude, it is Mandy. We met years ago when she hosted a Dine Out Vancouver event in Yaletown wearing a beautiful Malene Birger dress provided by my ecoluxury fashion company. She was so confident, glamorous, and in charge!
Not only is she an international TV and Media personality, journalist, social media influencer, yoga instructor and model, and life cheerleader for others. She is also a brand ambassador for a variety companies, events and causes. She has a passion for fashion and was the exclusive North American host of FashionTV, the world’s largest fashion channel with 500 million viewers worldwide and interned with Toronto’s CityTV, studying under some of the top names in Canadian broadcast Journalism.
BLUSHVancouver was able to slow her down long enough to find out what energizes her and how she plans to create change. Enjoy the interview!
What motivates you to make change?
I am committed to personal and professional success and stagnancy of any form motivates me. I like to live a life that is full speed ahead, with low to no drama and moving in a constant upward motion. My mission is to continually progress physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually and to uplift and inspire others to do the same.
What is your greatest fear, and how do you manage fear?
The only thing scarier to me than the fears that exist in my head is the possibility that I might allow them to stop me from living life fully. Living fearlessly does not mean I do not take all scenarios into account, or disregard basic logic or common sense. On the contrary, I have actually become more aware of the decisions I am making and their impact. I do not want to live a life fueled by excuses a.k.a. fear. I want to live a life with no regrets. The best way that I have learned to manage fear when it comes up in my life, is to tackle it head on with an open, honest and aware attitude. My mindset has changed overtime from having to ask myself “why” to each opportunity that comes my way to “why not?” I was not always so flexible in my decision-making and it lead me to feeling as though I wasn’t living life fully. Through the years, I have learned that taking risks is the only way I will accomplish my goal of living life to the max. I want to experience as much as I can on this planet while I am alive and to live with no “what if’s.”
How do you define success and what is the best way to achieve long-term success?
The ultimate success is inner happiness. The older I become, the more I realize the key to happiness is to appreciate each moment, person and occurrence that happens and to not take anything or anyone my life for granted. Practicing being thankful daily has changed my life in a positive way. The best way to cultivate abundance of any kind is to realize the abundance of blessings that already exist in your life and to be grateful for them. By starting small with baby steps and getting into the habit of becoming more aware of the simple blessings that occur throughout your day, you will naturally attract more success into your life. I like to begin and end my day by saying prayers of gratitude.
“You were born to shine and to share your beautiful light with the world.”
What makes you happiest? What do you do in your non-work time?
It doesn’t take much to make me happy; the simplest things bring me joy. While I am an internal optimist I am also a realist and know that life is not perfect and good and bad things happen. The choice is up to you on how you react to each situation that comes up. I like to look at each happening as a positive or learning experience. While it is not always easy; life is too short to focus on the negative. I am happiest when I am doing what I love, when I am in a beautiful space, and/or when I am surrounded by the people who I care about the most. I am a chameleon and my personality thrives off of stimulation – intellectually, physically, mentally and spiritually. When I’m not attending and covering glamorous events I am a fitness, yoga, health enthusiast and nature lover and can be found having fun in the sun: on a beach, in the water or on a mountain. Being physically active in nature is one of my biggest joys because it is pure nourishment for my mind, body and soul. I have an affinity for adventure, travel and adrenaline. I love taking risks and living life to it’s fullest.
What advice do you have for other women looking to take a big step in their lives?
Start today with small, gradual changes. Live with a fearless attitude and be politely persistent with your passionate pursuit. Do not give up. Every day will not be easy, but it will be worth it when you achieve whatever it is you desire. Develop an optimistic and grateful outlook on life and you will know success. You hold the key to living a happy life and it can happen right now in this moment. You have the power to change yourself and it all starts from within. When you approach life with a happy outlook, unstoppable drive and hard work ethic things seem to have a way of working out just as they should, and to living a life that is beyond your wildest dreams.
As always it’s important to remember, we are all a work in progress and the focus shouldn’t be on perfection, but on progression of the mind, body and soul daily.
