She is an on-air whirlwind and we love talking to her!
What ignited the spark in you to live a life with zest?
You know that saying you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone? Well, I was always a vibrant person but was in a past relationship with a man where that quality wasn’t valued. I allowed that person to dull my flame because my brightness made him insecure. I nearly gave up every bit of my personality that made me special and now, if I can try something new, or reinvent myself, I go for it!
What motivates you to make change?
It’s a tie between growth and survival. Growth includes things like wanting a challenge, or to learn something new. The desire to survive (personally and professionally) has also been a powerful motivator for me. Having the flexibility and willingness to change based on what the world, or your industry needs. No matter the motivation for change though, the end result must always be happiness.
How do you generate new business ideas?
All you need is ONE GREAT IDEA with the intention of solving a problem. Working in television for the last 17 years, I would see people struggle with communicating their message on camera, in the media, or even to a group of strangers. You can have the greatest product ever, but if your lack of confidence if broadcast on television, that exposure can actually hurt your brand rather than be a source of “free press”. I wanted to help people present their “best self” so that that people would listen to what they had to say or what they have to offer, not be distracted by their poor camera presence.
How do you define success and what is the best way to achieve long-term success?
Success for me means people look to me as an expert in what I do. Long term success is achieved through generosity. If you know something that will help others, you must share it without condition. For example, if you are a coach or consultant, It may seem counter-intuitive giving people advice for free rather than have them pay for the information, but helping people creates a bond. When they want to go deeper than just that advice and are willing to invest in it, they will support those who were there to help them without condition.
What advice do you have for other women looking to take a big step in their lives?
You know that knot in your stomach? Not the butterflies, but that crazy tension that starts inside and manages to seep out and actually influence your world? Big or small, personal or professional it’s time for a change. Your “big step” might be getting rid of the vampires in your life. It might be ending a marriage or quitting a job. It might be saying no to something you always thought you “had to do” because “they”, not you, needed you to do it. No change is as living with that knot in your stomach.
