A self-taught makeup artist living, creating, and beautifying in Vancouver, Denée Noel is someone that BLUSH has enjoyed working with, and as such we knew she was creating big change in both her life and career. That drive and passion inspired the invitation to Denée to join the ZEST Women club, and today we welcome her insights.
Denée is well-respected in the wedding and special events industries, traveling and attending many across Western Canada in her career journey. Add to that a new tony position as Account Executive for Anastasia Beverly Hills Western Canada. Her clients include celebrities, both local and international, and her work has been published. Over the next few months, she is diligently preparing for the summer wedding season as well as training the artistry skills of the staff at her stores.
How do you define success and what is the best way to achieve long-term success?
Success for me is defined as happiness. I wake up every day and get to do what I love. I have met amazing people and have had incredible experiences. All because I followed my heart, did what I was passionate about, searched for my happiness and didn’t take no for an answer!
How do you build successful friendships?
Successful friendships are built through empathy. I am fortunate enough to have amazing friends who have been there for me through some of the toughest times of my life. They have taught me through their kind words, supportive spirits and empathy that friendship – true friendship – is one of the greatest gifts we get to experience while on this lovely planet.
Who has been your greatest inspiration?
My greatest inspiration has been my parents. My father came to Vancouver from Trinidad and my mother from Nova Scotia in the 1970’s. They didn’t grow up well off but they worked hard, really hard to make sure that my brother and I had everything that we ever needed. I blame them for my affinity to designer goods. LOL! They inspire me to go after whatever it is I want no matter what the obstacles. They support me in all of my crazy dreams and ideas – I love them so much!
What are some of the biggest mistakes you’ve made in your life?
Some of the biggest mistakes I have made in my life include listening to the negativity of the nonbelievers; not taking action due to listening to the nonbelievers, and regretting not taking action and compounded it by then still not taking action.
It is easy to blame someone else for why something doesn’t work out. It is also simpler to throw a pity party instead of taking action. Those days are gone. Now when I want to do something, I do it! No one can steal my shine!
WHO IS DENÉE NOEL?
“To be the person I am today I had to sacrifice my pride and had to be honest with myself. What do I need to work on? What is keeping me from moving forward? Am I consciously trying to be my best self every day? When I was able to honestly answer those questions it was like a huge weight I was carrying around for 20 years had been lifted. I released the pressure to be perfect and embraced the things that make me different. Finally, at 36 years of age, I am the confident, kind and successful woman that I always dreamt of.
“I love spending time with my family and friends and intend to do a lot of camping this summer. My second home is the Dominican Republic so my love and I will spend some time together there as well. I would love to get to the Maldives, so that is also a vacation destination on my radar.”
2017 will be about continued personal growth both artistically and spiritually. Bikram yoga and weekly floats help keep me grounded and Zen. I hope everyone will stay tuned for some very exciting projects coming summer 2017. I am available for any occasion including coffee and a good laugh!”
